Matthew Hodson (He/Him)

Executive Director

NAM

Matthew Hodson is one of the most influential gay activists in Britain. He was involved in the 1980s protests against Section 28 and was a member of Outrage, the gay rights protest group. He worked in gay publishing and appeared on stage and film in queer movies and theatre.

He conceived and co-curated the first ever exhibition about LGBT lives to be mounted at a major UK museum (Pride and Prejudice at the Museum of London) and became Chief Executive of Gay Men Fighting AIDS.

Matthew is now the Executive Director of aidsmap, a community-based charity which supports people living with HIV globally, providing accurate and up to date information about HIV/AIDS. Matthew’s award-winning advocacy, as a person living shamelessly with HIV, challenges outdated notions of what it is to have HIV.
