Hi there! I’m Julio, international media, travel and hospitality executive, investor, and author – always seeking a path and a platform to have a positive impact on this world.

Presently, I am the Chairman of Mercato Metropolitano,  London’s first Sustainable Community Market with 5 locations in the city and expanding internationally. Also Board Director of Pacha Group, a global entertainment and luxury hospitality platform. I have a keen interest in the start-up community and act as an angel investor and board advisor to a handful of businesses globally, including Floe, Audicus, Roasting Plant, Central St. Martins/Birkbeck and Spanish Theatre Company.

Previously, I was chief executive of the Time Out Group – a leading global media and hospitality business. During my tenure I listed the company in the London Stock Exchange (AIM:TMO) and spearheaded the global expansion of the Time Out Market food hall division to many cities from New York to Dubai, becoming the global benchmark for premium food halls with over 10 million visitors in 2019. I also led the digital transformation of the iconic Time Out media brand around the world. Prior to that, I held senior global roles at TripAdvisor, Travelport, Regus, and Diageo, among others. At the end of 2021 I founded br1 creative ltd to advise international companies on digital transformation, business strategy and  global expansion.

As an international executive and brand builder, I’ve been lucky enough to have my work featured in publications including CNBC, the Financial Times, BBC, Expansión, El Pais, and Sky News. In 2021 I was awarded ‘Business Leader of the Year – Consumer Media’ by Campaign UK.

A native of Spain, I was awarded the ‘Order of Civil Merit of Spain – Officer’s Cross’, which recognises outstanding service by Spanish and foreign citizens for the benefit of Spain. As an advocate for Diversity & Inclusion I have been named in the 2021 HERoes Advocate Executive list celebrating the top 35 global leaders who are championing and advocating for women in the workplace; Top 50 EMpower Advocate Executive 2021 list of global leaders championing and advocating for ethnic minorities; and Top 100 OUTstanding LGBT+ Role Model global list 2021. All recognitions awarded by Yahoo! Finance and INvolve.

I enjoy podcasts as a medium and in 2022 I launched my brand-new show, The Internationalist, which questions what it means to be a global citizen in the modern age, with guests such as Anthony Scaramucci, Peter Tatchell, or Gina Miller.  Previously I hosted Time Out’s Your City or Mine?  talking to global thought-leaders about the innovations and ideas shaping our cities and our society.

Additionally, I am a passionate advocate for the environment and for human rights around the globe. If you have any questions or want to connect, do feel free to drop me a message!
